“You’re an idiot. Right, so you said anything so…you and my boss are going to some…sort of game. Football? Baseball? I’m not really sure. But he’s invited you and I need you to go and behave because this is important to me.”
Will took a seat next to her, his eyes staring down at his hands as he fiddled with his ring. ”You slept with your boss, it’s over, he married someone else, you’ve married me and that’s it. And…I’m an idiot.” He turned his head to face her, giving her a small nudge with a smile. ”You never said you were, you never said you weren’t…hey, none of my business. I was just interested.”
She leaned her head on his shoulder with a soft sigh. “You won’t find an argument from me there. I love you, not him. You’re the man I married, you’re the man I want to be with. He was just sex, not even very good sex, just…something to take my mind off how lonely I was. He complimented me and flirted and I just wanted some…connection. I worked all the time, it’s the only thing I ever did.” Jane took his hand and interlaced their fingers together. “It’s not like that with you. My life hasn’t ever felt this complete before."
Athena nodded and rose from the bed. ”All right,” she said easily. ”I’ll go.” She would get no further tonight, but…perhaps she had put something in the other woman’s head. Gave Theta a smile, warm and dare she say? Loving. She was beginning to care for this prickly Time Lady, which was both relieving and terrifying.

Shaking her head, she headed for the door. ”I’ll be in my room, darling.”
She was shaking out of fear, no. Not fear. Something else, something she couldn’t describe but it wasn’t entirely unpleasant, the feeling. She looked down at the floor, not wanting to watch Athena leave. Part of her missed the warmth that passed between them, the feel of the blonde’s weight on hers, her lips. But Theta couldn’t afford to think like that.
“Goodnight Athena.” She murmured, waiting to hear the door shut before she dared move again.
Helen’s face lit up and she nodded enthusiastically. “Exactly! That’s what I’ve always said, but of course no one listens to me. I fear I will never been seen as a legitimate peer, but so long as I get the education I desire, then it’s all worth it. Perhaps someday, you could show me something you’ve discovered, provided it won’t spoil too much for me, of course.”
“Believe me, when I come from you are one of the foremost experts in your field. Everyone loves the great Helen Magnus.” She smiled. “I would love to. One day when the time comes, I will.” Theta set her cup down. “So tell me, how are things between you and John? I suppose you’ve only just met haven’t you? The magnificent five, out to change the world.”
“Well hello there, darling. To what do I owe the pleasure?”
“Theta, I understand wanting to give the children a playmate but…this is something you should have run by me first. We are…well we’re partners, at least. I simply don’t appreciate the going behind my back.”
“Helen I- I didn’t think it was such a big deal. I honestly didn’t think you’d mind. They’re children, they need some sense of normalcy. And I thought you’d disapprove of having an abnormal as a pet.”
